Vehicle description:
The 752.5 diesel locomotive is designed for freight service on 1,435 mm gauge track at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The bogie assembly, underframe, driver’s cab and hoods are retained from the original 740 class locomotive. The upgrade consists chiefly in the replacement of the expensive-to-run and unreliable ČKD K 12 V 230 DR engine with the ČKD K 6 S 310 DR, which has much greater operational reliability and lower maintenance costs than the original engine. The output of the newly installed engine has been increased to 1,210 kW. The auxiliary drives have been redesigned and the cooling block modified. The locomotive is compliant with the UIC 505 loading gauge and fitted with an electrodynamic brake.
The bogie assembly and external appearance are virtually unchanged, but major changes have been made to the engine compartment layout. To accommodate the new K 6 S 310 DR engine, which is larger than the original K 12 V 230 DR, it was necessary to modify the engine mounting in the underframe. The TD 813 generator (a modified TD 804 from the original 753 locomotive) is connected directly to the engine. Owing to the different speeds of the two engines, the auxiliary drives have been suitably modified. Necessary changes have also been made to the cooling block. The electrodynamic brake allows inclination/gradient and stopping mode braking with a maximum output of 1,710 kW and parking brake mode. The EDB block is mounted in an engine compartment in the forward driver’s cab. The desks in both driver’s cabs have also been redesigned. In the upgraded locomotive, the original springs have been replaced with rubber-metal lamellae and crumple zones have also been installed behind the buffers.
