Vehicle description:
740 class locomotives are among our most numerous industrial locomotives. They have undergone many upgrades and refurbishments over the years – both minor and major. They have been used by external transporters (OKD, Viamont, ...) and in track service since the 1990s. Owing to their original intended function, however, they have a relatively low top speed (70 km/h) due to a traction gear ratio of 78:15. For this reason, three locomotives of the original 740 class have so far had their gear ratio changed to 77:16 by exchanging the gear wheel on the axle and the pinion on the traction motor.

At the same time, transverse shock absorbers have been installed between the traction pin and the bogie cross member (the same as in the 742 class). These modifications allow the top speed of the locomotive to be increased to 90 km/h, as in the 742 class. The locomotive has been given the class ID 741 with inventory numbers of 501 and above. The locomotives were already fitted with a master-slave unit and an LVZ train protection system. Viamont uses 741 locomotives to transport complete trains predominantly in master-slave mode.
